When the Sky Falls
Phil Earle

1941. War is raging. And one angry boy has been sent to the city, where bombers rule the skies. There, Joseph will live with Mrs F, a gruff woman with no fondness for children. Her only loves are the rundown zoo she owns and its mighty silverback gorilla, Adonis. As the weeks pass, bonds deepen and secrets are revealed, but if the bombers set Adonis rampaging free, will either of them be able to end the life of the one thing they truly love?

Inspired by a true story.

A heart-warming story. It teaches us that war can bring out the best in people while also bringing out the worst. Fear can affect people and make them do the unthinkable. A very worthwhile book to read. 5*

A sad but good book. My favourite characters are Adonis, the silverback ape, and Mrs F, the zookeeper. My least favourites are the bully family! I like this book because it is a comfort book for a rainy day.

I LOVED IT! It was such a heartfelt story, showing that animals can feel just like humans. My favourite character would be Adonis, as he showed his love and sacrificed himself for Joseph. This is a book written with so much technique that it makes you feel as though you are there yourself, feeding Adonis the magnificent ape.

Your book is my favourite - it is happy, sad, the characters are interesting and I like that the inspiration comes from real life events. I am not a reader myself and I read the whole of 'When the Sky Falls' (or A is for Adonis). It is by far the best book out of the five and I am looking forward to reading 'While the Storm Rages'.
